ASAP, the After School Arts Program, seeks volunteers for its fall session, to assist in arts classes for 3rd through 5th graders. The program takes place at St. John’s Lutheran Church downtown (600 Sixth Avenue) and meets Thursdays, 3:30 to 5:30 for 7 weeks. Orientation is Thursday, October 13, 4:00–5:30. Total time commitment for the session is 15–17 hours. Volunteers do NOT need prior arts expertise—only a willingness to work directly with kids. Fall studios include Beat Blast (percussion, bucket drumming, boomwhackers); Ceramics; Culinary Arts (cooking); Drawing Comics; and Poets Unleashed (spoken-word poetry jam). " We were honored and pleased when ASAP brought their program to the heart of our neighborhood with a summer camp in the Evelyn K. Davis Park. I was there every day and I saw firsthand the children's enthusiasm for painting, sculpting, and drumming. We are very proud of our park, and THIS is exactly the kind of thing that should be happening here. Thank you for connecting our kids with fine art."
