ASAP to Take Part in Davis Park Fall Festival September 8th

For the fourth consecutive year, ASAP will be part of the Fall Festival in Evelyn Davis Park on Forest Avenue, which celebrates the Mid City community. As in previous years, ASAP will host a hands-on activity for children from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s activity helps children turn egg cartons into tiny elephants—following the African Safari theme from ASAP Summer Arts Camp, which also takes place in Davis Park, sponsored by Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department. Also making its debut at the Fall Festival is the elephant sculpture made by the students at Summer Arts Camp. Teaching artists Rachel Buse and Tim Schmitt had worked with students in the park June 25–29 to interpret drawings into a life-size sculpture made primarily of cardboard and masking tape. The Fall Festival allows the completed elephant to be seen by hundreds of people.
